Rob:   This is truly a profound, philosophical post.  In addition, one of t=
he reasons I like
recording is that it is the act of a historian -- much more immediate than =
photography.  If
nothing else, each recording makes a record of the irreversible unfolding o=
f an ecosystem.

My concern is that in 2057, there were be severely degraded ecosystems, and=
 I think
people will love to get their hands on what they sounded like.
