Hi Lou
When micing close to instruments and sound effects, I too will use to
M-S monitoring to hear the cross-over relation and localization.
When I'm aiming the center mic at a stereo field for sounds at a
distance, I find that I can hear the center (treble) of the
cardioid's polar pattern better if I only listen to that one mic, not
the mix. It can be useful for me to imagine that the "sides" are
similar to 180 degree opposing omni mics with a tad more treble in
their "centers." Rob D.
