Oh yeah Dan I think Chris wrote that query about the SD mic pres not me...
I know the Sound Devices pres are sweet. I am about to get one.
Chris...regarding handholding...the Windpac does have a little finger
ring that you are supposed to be able to hold. I bought a handgrip to
screw on which makes handholding much nicer. Only $30, I got a Remote
Audio handgrip from Professional Sound Services. I think B&H sells
them too.
It's so light that hand holding is not a problem even though the joint
is in the back not the middle. Regarding cable control, it comes with
a mono cable with an isolating piece that fits into the
suspension...like a connbox sort of. So after that cables should be
pretty straightforward.
Using it without the zepp is no problem. In fact I am doing that this
week on an indoor gig. Just using a foam windscreen over the mic.
I only just got mine so I am not expert, but I like it so far. Martyn
has used it more extensively and likes it so I took his word for it.
I think using a Rycote or Windpac or Sennheiser are each a good
choice. Depends on whether the space saving of the Windpac is useful
to you.
