Thanks Bernie, John and Walt...

I thought I could just start walking around after surgery but this morning
the pain is throbbing, ouch!!!

The Hogs hair filter is something I got from the outside broadcasting
department of the BBC in London, England.

I have had this for over 25 years and it still works and looks the same the
day I had it. It is more like the fur of a beaver (it's not animal) and wit=
h
an oily texture not unlike a wax jacket or a ducks back, it literally holds
the water and sends it away from the body of the mic & jammer.

When I can, I will get some pictures for you.

I will also shop around and ask some of my colleagues back home where I can
get some for you. It allows me to record in the rain. It does stink a littl=
e
afterwards like a wet dog...

Could you describe exactly how you use Hogs Hair? How you place it, how
thick a layer, etc.

BTW, Hogs Hair is a brand name for a filter material that's sold
regionally in southern California, it's not specific to that name. There
are many other names for this filter material and it's widely available.

There is a DPA Windpac on ebay right now, the first one in nearly a
year. It went through one round of bidding where the bids went above
$400 but did not meet reserve, more than I paid for my Rycote and
Sennheiser systems on ebay. It's been put back up today with a little
lower buy it now, of course the reserve is hidden, but I'd expect it's
above $400. A awfully expensive system for what's there. But then so are
the Rycote and Sennheiser systems.
