Hi Daniel--
I hope I'm wrong, but its unlikely you'll find a
work-around for USB uploads of your recordings
from your net-MD.
It is true that recordists are wise not to make
assumptions when researching "recorders." After
I find something that looks good on paper, I try
to apply the "Find at least one happy user" law.
Lists like this are essential if one needs an
investment to do specific things.
I don't feel pessimistic about Hi-MD. Its low
cost and high quality has allowed many new
recordists to get started with higher quality
mics since its introduction in 2004.
I'd too would much prefer to be able to simply
drag-copy my Hi-MD files via a USB cable to Mac
or PC with no software. Be sure to let Sony hear
about these needs if you want them to change. The
Sony software gets a bad rap from time to time
but my experience with v3.4 continues to be
pleasant (as far as computer dependency goes,..)
Our Intro to Media Production class with 100+
freshman college students just transferred
several discs each without one reported error
prompt or lost file using v3.4 and first
generation NH700's on their home and on school
platforms. Of the software related problems I
deal with, SS ranks near the very bottom. Rob D.
