John, I figured that the fifth recording might be a squirrel, no clue about the first. It occurred to me as I was reading your post that I should check the Gros Morne National Park web site. If it is a squirrel, which seems probable, it should be a Red Squirrel, apparently introduced from the mainland in the 1960s. Recording 4 should be a Downy, Hairy, Three-toed or Black-backed Woodpecker or a Northern Flicker, the Downy being common, and the others uncommon, in the area. I'll have to look these up. Thanks very much. I have the feeling that this is one of those passtimes that could become addictive. Rory |
