Hi,

As mentioned in an earlier post, I am working on a documentary about
Newfoundland, and happened to make some recordings of some birds.
This was August 6th, about two or three hours after sunrise. We were
at Gros Morne National Park, which is on the Strait of Belle Isle
between Newfoundland and Labrador. Specifically, we were on Bonne
Bay, which runs inland from the ocean, on what is known as the East
Arm. In other words, we were about 13 miles/20 kilometres inland
(roughly 49.5 N, 57.75 W).

I haven't recorded birds before, but think that I'm going to start.
As casual as these recordings are, I enjoyed doing them, and I'd
love to know what the birds are. I'm going to upload five brief
excerpts to the Member Files part of the site. I know that there
isn't a lot of room there, so I plan to upload what I can and delete
the files in 24-48 hours so as not to take up room. If this isn't
ok, let me know.

The files are:
Newfoundland bird 1
Newfoundland bird 2
Newfoundland bird 3
Newfoundland woodpecker 4
Newfoundland what is it 5

A couple of specific questions:
Are recordings 1 and 2 the same bird?
Can one identify a woodpecker from the drumming?
Is recording 5 a bird or something else?

I should add that nothing has been done to the recordings except
that they have been normalized to -5dB.

Thanks very much.

Cheers,

Rory
