And thanks for a break in the monotony of a long solo recording trip.
Only talking to someone to hand over money for fuel (for my truck or me)
gets old even if you enjoy solo. Enjoyable also to have another look at
a 722 in action. And for someone to discuss shop with. Soon I'm sure we
will hear some great recordings from you.

Did get the Cuban Treefrogs the next night, following along behind heavy
rain. Interesting calls, not just loud parts, but some quiet mutterings
too. The focus of the trip, however.

Much of the rest of the trip could have used some rain. Planned areas
were Dry, Dry, Dry. Dustfrogging conditions. 4X4 needed in places in
southern Georgia just to get down the road in deep dry sand. Helped a
teen by pulling his car from the sand while still in Florida. Need rain.

Other highlights:

Cottonmouths, including one that ate another snake in front of me. Hard
to gape and show your white mouth when it's full of snake. So he dashed
off through the bushes to finish his meal in private.

Lots of new minted alligators, added a little to my recordings and
photos. No bellowing males though, one of the things on my want list.
Really too late in the year for them.

Got to use my "Geezer Pass" for the first time. I qualified for the
Golden Age pass this year, which is permanent, instead of the Golden
Eagle pass that's a annual one.

Okefenokee Swamp still has water but it's down. Not a single alligator
to be seen from the Chesser Island boardwalk or the island drive. I
still wish that place would let us in at night! Arabia swamp was
completely dust, that's one of the feed areas for the Okefenokee to the
NW of the better known swamp. At least I could spend the night there
away from most of the sound of man.

Walt
