It does take a bit to do. For all my night recording I depend primarily
on light clothing to protect most skin. Then I use citronella based
repellents on what's left. That generally keeps them from drilling. I
prefer hand held mics most of the time. I don't use DEET repellents due
to their ability to dissolve equipment.
I recently got a full mosquito suit to try, but have not recorded with
it yet. I expect my trip to Florida next month will give me the opportunity=
.
It's not just the stuff that flys. I bounded out and grabbed mic and
started recording in the darkness a while back. And realized a lot of
pain was turning up rising up my legs. I was standing right on a fire
ant nest. That did call a halt to recording for a while. There are limits.

I've found that's one of the advantages when I run the SASS 17' up. Less
insects and they generally just fly by.
