Thanks for the reminder, John.  

Another wonderful source of periodic interference is your cell phone,
or one carried by a companion.  The farther away you get from a cell
phone tower, the more powerful the cell phone's attempt to "phone
home" and establish a signal.  Best to turn the darn things off until
you need to use them.
