Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I tried Infinadyne but failed to recover any files. The odd thing is that I had better results simply opening the defective files with Cool Edit. It loaded the file until it got to the corrupt part when it stuck but I was able to cancel the load and use the good part of the file which had been loaded.
