Trip to South Africa and my VP88

I am going to SA for a couple months to work on a wildlife reserve
and I am taking my VP88 and my FR2 to record some things, animals,
ambi, etc. I am looking to buy a suspension and the choice seems to
boil down to the Rycote one [bulky, expensive, good] and the Shure
one A88SM [slimmer, cheaper, probably not as good I guess]. Does
anyone have experience with these mounts or opinions on which to
get? I gather having a slimmer handheld rig would entice me to use
it more often, but buying the Rycote will allow me to get the
zeppelin one day as an add on, when I have more money.

Also, do you think I should take a tripod to mount the mic on for
long records? OR is that a waste of effort and space. I do need to
travel lite.

Also I was going to buy some little in ear binaural mics for walking
around. Something like the OKM ones or the Microphone madness
ones. Does anyone have a good pic in this department? Is there a
good way to interface these mics with the little mini plugs into an
XLR input on my FR2?

Thanks for thoughts.

Danny
