If it's in the output stage of the player, a lower playback gain 
would reduce it. If it's earlier, recordings would have to be 
processed to avoid high level high frequencies. That's a shame, since 
we now have recording media that, unlike lower speeds of analog tape, 
have no problem with high level high frequencies.

Another approach would be to not worry about the lower quality 
players...it's their problem.
