Using a waveform, I see a clip and two additional occurrences of
distortion in the third (CD playback) call. The first call packs some
serious energy. Even without MD A-D and ATRAC, I'm not surprised at
all to see some peculiarities develop. Very similar sonic character
to the material I had CD playback troubles with MBHO->MP2->Sony D7
(DAT). Is that the ATRAC Hz allotment shifting downwards during the
first two MD calls?  Rob D.
