Pete,
You responded off list, but I can't get your email address to work.

Regarding:
>> Recorded in Larkspur Colorado with a Sony ECM-MS907 (which is
>> considered a poor microphone for quiet nature recording) rubber-banded
>> to a branch near a hummingbird feeder.

You Asked:
>That recording seems to have much less noise than I get with the same
>mic. What sort of preamp and recorder did you use for that John?

My answer:
Just a Sony MZ-N707 minidisc. I'm not sure what the gain setting was,
though I know I turned it down a bit because at first the hummingbirds
were clipping.
Perhaps my mic is for some reason quieter than yours, but it could
also be an illusion, as some of what sounds like distant wing beats
might actually be the Harley that was circling the neighborhood.

-John Hartog
