I think it has to do with audio engineering, and the lack thereof.
Manufacturers of digital products may assume, wrongly, that the
analog parts of the circuitry are easy and copy something out of a
book.
Remember that the professional market is now populated by people who,
in the majority, have very little audio engineering knowledge. A
market that used to be spec-driven is now hype-driven.
There's still some use for us old farts with our instruments.
