Take your time, and don't be pressured by the sales people.
When I bought my PMD670 a couple years ago, I was sold on its
capabilities to record in uncompressed wav format and transfer files
digitally via usb to my computer - but now the HIMD minidisk recorders
can do that. One thing for sure: the PMD670 is not known for its high
quality preamps.=20
What I like about the MD/183s combo is it so lightweight and compact.
I generally use my 183's tree mounted: here's a picture.
