Thanks Oryoki, for the information about the reported faulty 
PMD-660s.  Have you heard anything similair about the 
PMD-670?  
When I first bought my PMD-670 in Dec. 2003 the dealer threw in 
a couple mics for really cheap.  Those cheap mics seemed to 
overload the preamps, so I sent both the mics and the recorder 
to Marantz.  They determined the mics were too "hot" for the 
recorder.  I bought different mics and the problem seemed to go 
away.  I hope it is true that the problem was only with those mics 
and I don't run into problems with other mics in the future.
