Well, I kind of answered my own question.  I found that I could go to 11,02=

with no noticeable loss in audio quality.  if I go below that, there's a
definite loss of fidelity.

I think for future recordings I will save them at 44,100, 16 bit, and if I
want to put them on my website, I'll resample them down to 11025.
Lowering the resolution to 11025 changed the file size from 3,321K to 808K.
I wonder if other recordists who post to the web use the same settings?

Yup, I tried it with 16-bit and I cannot hear the hiss at all anymore.
However, a 16 bit file at 44,100 is quite large, even for a 15 second
recording.=20
How low can I go on the resolution without sacrificing audio quality?

The 8 bit file may be the problem. See if 16 bit helps.
