Ryan,

I am sorry to hear of your predicament in such a likely recording
environment. The 9 volt battery in a Rode NT4, according to specs,
should give forty hours of recording. I have sometimes gone more than
50 hours without noticing increased noise.

I use my Rode NT4 with a Sony MZR900 recorder. It offers 30 recording
level steps. I usually set my level at 20 (by counting down from max
level). At higher levels, I believe I am recording excessive pre-amp
hiss from the recorder.

If it is wet in Khao Sok rainforest, your problem is probably related
to moisture. Between uses, I keep my Rode NT 4 tightly packed with
refreshed silica gel bags. Even on a dewy morning, after about an hour,
it usually develops a flutter in one or both channels. Generally, I=20
don't use it in damp conditions.

I wonder if any member could explain why some mics are more affected
by moisture than others. Do any members have work-arounds to combat
moisture induced mic noise. I have wondered, for example, whether a
tiny heater element would improve mic performance in damp conditions.

Regards

Michael Gallagher
