I've been wondering if we should say "very high" sensitivty. The
Shure WL-183 is spec'd at 40 dBV/Pa which is on par with the
Sennheiser mkh 60 isn't it?

... but lower than any other lower-cost power in plug (PIP) mic we
know of? For example, the respected $1000/pair DPA 4060 omni
capsules have just about exactly the same self noise [23 dB(A) vs.
22.5 dB(A) for the WL-183's]. The sensitivity of the DPA's is much
lower at 20 mV/Pa so effective self noise of the WL-183's should be
considerably lower. In the field reports have said that the dpa's
seem to out-perform their specs somehow, but the 183's are very
respectable I would say. The 4060's are also harder to modify for PIP.

When "what mic to buy" questions specify application, polar pattern
and whether for "PIP" or phantom, it helps a lot. Rob D.
