The Epson Stylus Photo R200 prints in full color directly onto CDs and
DVDs with a printable surface. The R200 costs about $90 from online
vendors, or $77 refurbished from Epson. The R200 works as a
general-purpose printer, too, and comes with Mac and PC software.=20
An alternative is to use a thermal printer that can print onto any CD
or DVD, no special surface required. Casio makes several versions,
with prices between $75 and $125. The thermal printers are limited to
one color ribbon, so your text will be all black, all red, and so on.
It doesn't cost much more to purchase CDs or DVDs that have a
printable surface. The thermal printer is useful when you decide to
label a set of standard CDs you have already used.
