Catarina,
I have been using a PMD 670 for a while now, and I think one could
work for your 5 minutes every hour for two days experiment. However,
you would need a remote timer device; an expensive 4GB compact flash
card to record four hours of stereo 16bit/44.1 wav files; and an
auxiliary power source.
The PMD 670 has a jack for a remote switch. You can set it to turn
on and begin recording when a remote switch is turned on. I don't
know where you can find the device you will need to turn it on for
five minutes every hour. I myself spent some time searching for
something like this but found nothing - nothing affordable that is.
So, I am in the process of building my own device out of two
inexpensive countdown timer kits and a couple relay kits I ordered
online.
The memory price issue could be solved if you are willing to record
in mp3 rather than wav: The 1GB CF cards have been getting cheaper
lately - less than $100. I noticed a good deal today at Fry's
Outpost: http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3730946
I'm not sure about power source. I run mine on eight nimh AAs, and
that's enough for about two hours at the most. So, I think you would
need an auxiliary battery pack, but I do not know much about them.
