Check out the Hi-MD FAQ/description at minidisc.org ~ you can reformat
existing disks to nearly double their current capacity I believe. Not to
1GB though...
Btw my high enthusiasm for Hi-MD has taken a *serious* dive with the
emerging suspicion that Sony does not let you simply USB-upload your PCM
recordings. Anything uploaded is "encrypted" by SonicStage, Sony's
proprietary software, and does not appear on your PC as a standard WAV or
AIFF file. AFAIK there is not currently any ability to translate/export
files, though I think people are talking about burning CDs and ripping
them to get the data off! Though I think I heard a rumor tht you can't
even burn a CD of a PCM recording!?
Watching all this like a hawk... Sony has taken so much bad press for
their Janus-like contradictory impulses on such fronts that I maintain a
glimmer of hope they will fix this in version 2.1 of their software.
