Hi Martyn
Thanks so much for this excellent information. Its too bad about the
noise pollution from the aircraft. That phenomenon has ruined many
recordings for me!!
I will look into the mic you mentioned, Telinga. What kind of mic is
that? Do you generally prefer recording with shotgun mics instead of
stereo mics? What stereo mic do you recommend?
Also, I wonder if there is any good and relatively affordable system
one could use to record underwater. In theory, it would be amazing to
get the sound of the lava going into the ocean, although I dont even
know how accessible the ocean is at the point where the lava is near
enough to hear. Do you know anything about recording underwater?

<<. On the other hand, getting into the uplands to record endemics
 is worth the visit.>>

I would love to hear more about this. I have not heard of it!
I havent been to Hawaii yet, its my first trip, so info I can get for
recording would be fantastic!

Thanks so much for all of this info
