I don't mind Doug people posting sound bytes, the group does not post many
to worry about, Mystery sound, I'll take a stab at it, I recon you have
slowed down the sound of something, I believe this is not the original spee=
d
of the bird call, maybe some kind of hummingbird? Have you changed the
sample rate?

Subject: [Nature Recordists] Sound files may now be posted in messages!
I have just changed the options on our group to allow attachment of sound
files to group messages. If any of you objects strongly to this, please let=
us know. I'm doing this to encourage more and easier interchange of actual=
sounds. The new policy is:
"Sound files may be attached to postings, as long as they remain under
200K. No other attachments will be allowed. Members are encouraged to
discuss unknown or unidentified sounds they have recorded and to post sound=
files and to post sounds to the group so that other members can hear them.=
The moderator has supplied a web site, which can be found on the "Links"
page, to which members may post sounds larger than 200K for the benefit of=
the group."
Note that 200K is pretty generous using appropriate MP3 compressions, and
if it becomes a problem, we may go down to 100K.
Attachments are deleted from the Yahoo archives after about a week, so if
you hear something you want to save, you'll need to save it on your system.
I am attaching a sound to this message as a trial. This is a "mystery"
sound - I know what it is, but I'd like to get your impressions. I doubt
you'll be able to ID it, but at least guess the family of birds it's from.=
The answer will surprise you!

They are linked off the info page in my frog pages, the direct links to
the pages are:
SASS:
http://frogrecordist.home.mindspring.com/docs/my_mod_sass.html
M/S:
http://frogrecordist.home.mindspring.com/docs/my_ms_setups.html
There have been a few mods here and there, the inside of the
SASS/MKH-110 looks a bit different as I built the same design as my
other SASS into it rather than the original split support blocks. I did
not redo that photo as I'd have to take it all apart again. I also
replaced Crown's heavy metal handle with one of the Sennheiser plastic
handles on the SASS/MKH-110, similar to what's on the SASS/MKH-20 in the
photos. On the M/S, I changed the handle on the MKH-80 pair.
I also often put baby socks on the mics inside the zeppelins for more
wind protection. Heavy winds could get through to them even with the
fur. I've some Rycote style fuzzy type material to sew some more
official covers.
In addition there are photos of the Telinga and the SASS/MKH-20 on my
tall tripod:

http://wwknapp.home.mindspring.com/tall.tripod.2.jpg
A even taller tripod arrived today, 17' rather than 13' to the mount.
Yet to try that one, it's not as heavy duty so the Telinga would be too
much wind load. Planning on SASS & M/S on it.
