I believe Hi-MD had to await new technology in optical disks. The kind
of system used in it to pack the data in has only been available in 3.5"
opticals for a few years now.

When I first started using MD all the speculation was on the then
already available 640meg MD's. Unfortunately Sony got all wrapped up
into making everything their memory stick technology, or so it seemed.
With memory stick losing ground to other solid state packages, they have
finally gotten into looking at MD again. I agree, long overdue.

Please keep us informed of developments on this format at HHb. Meantime,
I'm very satisfied with my current Portadisc. Every time I think about
having it's ROM updated, I find I'm using it too much to send it in. And
it's not giving problems.
