When I looked at it, each sound seemed to have the original link with
it. So I could go to the original site easily. I did not play the sound
links on their site, but went to the original links and looked through
the associated websites. Those definitely were not on the findsounds server=
.
It is, however, not a very good source of links for nature sounds. I
looked through the frog section, and it seemed to have only those places
with a sound or two, not the organized collections. And only 200 total
links. Many of the collections are government or university run. Even
when it had one of them (University of Texas), it was only one of a
large collection of frogcalls.
By other methods I have found a couple cases where my entire site was
mirrored in another site. They had not contacted me, but did have full
info as to my links and so on and identified that it was not their site.
They did not actually keep my stuff on their server, but simply opened
my site in a frame from their site. There are lots of different ways to
do this sort of thing.
I suggested google as they do not get into this sort of stuff. Their
image section will turn up all kinds of stuff of mine, all properly
linked. It's also been a way to track down who was using my photos
without asking. Many folks ask, and for educational or non-profit use I
nearly always ok it. Just asking that it be identified as from me.
Since nature recording is not a money making thing with me, I'm fairly
lax. But, the photos on my site are cut down thumbnails of the
originals, and the sound clips are short segments out of much longer
recordings.
