Walter:
The Soundfield ST-250 <http://www.soundfield.com/products/st250.php> will
give you surround sound from a single mic (in actuality that's not true
since there are 4 separate elements within the capsule, but that's
another story). So far I only know of one person who has tried in in the
field and they did so in the Nevada desert, so humidity wasn't a factor.
I forget who it was they rented the microphone from, and I have never
heard the results, so I'm not sure what really came of it, but he was
happy with the results.
