Too bad the cute new iPods don't record. But there is *this* to try:

the iRiver iHP-140, a 40GB recorder in the iPod form factor which has
optical digital in/out, line in/out, and a mic in(!) (presumably stereo
1/8", no mention of plug-in power). They state that if you plug it in via
its USB2 port it appears as external file storage (i.e. a drive) under
Windows...
