Dear Group Members,
I am hoping to get some advice from as many as possible concerning my
publications of Ecuador bird vocalizations. As many of you know, we ( first
just me
,with much help from others, but later with other co-authors) have for the past
several years published a series of first cassette and later CD publications
featuring bird vocalizations from various life zones in Ecuador. We have
published 4 cassettes on the Eastern Lowlands, 2 CD sets on the NW, 1 CD set on
the
Highlands, a 2 cassette set on the Eastern Subtropics, and will be publishing
w/in 30 days a 5 CD set on the SW. What we have left to do is the Eastern
Foothills and an expanded CD set for the Eastern Lowlands. Many people have
contributed to these publications.
Also, as most of you know, Niels Krabbe has now published a comprehensive DVD
featuring birds songs and calls of Ecuador in association with Sjoerd Mayer
in the same format as Sjoerd's Bolivia, Venezuela, and Tropical Asia
publications. Niels has been a contributor and co-author on many of my
publications and
I have happily contributed to his publication. We are friends, not
competitors. My question to those of you familiar with our publications and the
Neotropics is:
Should John V. Moore Nature Recordings continue to publish Ecuador Regional
publications in CD format or is the DVD format Sjoerd and Niels are using
sufficient to make available these vocalizations to the entire range of birders?
The alternative to continuing with the CD publications would be to
immediately concentrate on making Niels DVD 100% complete in all areas. This is
not to
imply that Niels DVD is not incredibly good..it is. The other co-authors and I
have hundreds of hours of recordings that could augment Niels DVD, but it is
already a truly magnificent work. So, once again, the question is, is there a
need for publications in a CD format in addition to the DVD format? And, if so,
how great is the need?
You can either reply to me directly or to the group if you think a discussion
is warranted.
Thanks in advance for your help.
John
