NatureRecordists, Rich Peet makes an excellent point: lighter colored windscreens draw fewer flying insects than dark ones. Have often wished that foam windscreens came in light gray or tan, rather than only professional black. Have seen but one non-black professional windscreen, which is a light gray, long-napped cover for a zeppelin, familiarly called a woolly bear. Having said that, I realize that my old Sennheiser MKH404 windscreen is light gray, too, but it is over 30 years old and probably no longer made. And having said that, I recall a light gray windscreen for the Telinga reflectors - not the foam cover for the mike, but an additional fabric that stretches completely across the dish for greater wind abatement. Does anyone know of any light-colored foam windscreens that are commercially available and suitable for field use? Good recording, Randy |
