To Mark Phinney,

In looking for a minimal-budget set up for CD quality computer editing, I
chose an iMac, and Peak LE VST sound editor. (I'm running OS 9.1). I inpu=
t
the sound via the analogue input on the iMac and if done correctly the soun=
d
in the computer is indistinguishable from the original on either DAT or
compact cassette. Nothing added, nothing taken away. When I transfer from
my compact cassette recorder (Sony WMD6C) I power it with batteries and
position it several meters away from the computer, so that I don't get any
added hum.=20

"Peak LE VST" editing software is excellent and inexpensive, worth the
investment, and may come with a free Waves noise-reduction program
"AudioTrack". "AudioTrack" works like a graphic equalizer, would be ideal
for you, I should think. You will need to buy a CD burner, which most
likely will come with free CD burning software like basic "Toast" which
should work fine.

I don't agree with the comments by Charles Deneen:

I have no trouble with 'grain', with analogue input to my iMac. Hope this
helps!
