Before you start disassembling your
Portadisc, or handling the new EEPROM,
be sure to ground yourself adequately
against static electricity buildup.=20
EEPROM is short for "electrically erasable
programmable read only memory," and
even a small static discharge can damage
it.
Most of us have successfully slammed new
memory or a new expansion card into a PC
without bothering with grounding protection.
The EEPROM, however, is a component that
is much more susceptible to static damage,
so you should take precautions. You can
purchase a grounding strap that attaches
to your wrist for a few dollars at an
electronics store. Better safe than sorry!
