Dumb question? Does your setup have two on switches - one forward and one back. One of them (I cannot remember which right now) puts in a low filter!! I have recorded lots of owls with a dish. It was with my big old Roche before I got the Telinga but the dish really helped. It had no trouble picking up the low frequencies as a freight train rolled through a rocky canyon in the Rockies (did so for 45 minutes). We could no longer hear the train but it came in loud and clear through the earphones and on the recordings.
