As promised linked is a sample of the "Sony ECM957 / MZ-R90" Combo. This was a quiet site. The sapsucker was about 10 yards away drumming on a metal roadmarker attached to a tree and the song bird was much more distant. You can decide for yourself if this microphone is quiet enough for you. The consumer md is capable of more than this microphone. If there is doubt of that I can supply other samples to establish it.
