Thanks Bernie - rubber surgical gloves - What a WONDERFUL IDEA,

What type of yeast pills are you talking about Klaus?

The single layer bug clothes do nothing for me except concentrate the beast=
s
wherever the cloth touches my clothes. Does anybody have a web page or
supplier for the double stuff?

I decided to try to swear off DEET a couple years ago bit that did not
last.. Problem the citronella and the other alternative bug stuff I got onl=
y
made the mosquitoes laugh hysterically when I put it on... Did not get it
recorded because I was too busy swatting and swearing and hubby laughing to=
o
loudly anyway. They were biting on the back of a hand wet with citronella!!
Up here we have lots of mosquitoes and sometimes black flies - terrible
critters but great bird food. When I get bit by mosquitoes I get welts
which last for a week or so - my husband is TOTALLY unaffected - they bothe=
r
him because the tickle when they bite!! He says all he has to do anyway is
to take his mosquito magnet (me) along and nothing gets near him. I have
tried all sorts of things like eating no fruit the week before going out, n=
o
scented hair spray, shampoo, deodorant, loads of garlic, no garlic, etc etc
etc.

Please do not bombard me with that "if you do not scratch them they will no=
t
itch line" I lived with that for most of my marriage (we have been togethe=
r
for over 40 years) I even believed it enough to tape small lids over the
bites so I could not scratch them and so they would not even rub on
clothing - results - itching welts which lasted a week and I could not even
get the satisfaction of scratching them. I only smartened up a few years
ago and remembered that when we lived in California my husband had frequent
encounters with poison oak - to which he is VERY sensitive. I can sit in
the stuff and nothing happens (except I can spread it to my hubby) Anyway =
I
finally learned to come back with the line that I never scratch poison oak
and it does not itch me!! Unfortunately no poison oak (or ivy) here for hi=
m
to get into - I am dying to use the "if you do not scratch it it will not
itch line? on him when he is madly washing it rubbing like crazy with a bar
of soap.

So... it is large quantities of deet, heavy clothing and Calamine with
antihistamine to scratch into the bites I manage to get.

Gotta go out and get some surgical gloves before next spring. One great
thing about winter here (and there is a lot of that) NO MOSQUITOES

One trick we've learned to use is rubber surgical gloves. They're
sometimes a bit sweaty, but no mosquitoes get through and you don't
have to endure deet on your hands. If you're not using a protective
jacket and/or pants, you will need to use deet on those parts of your
body not in contact with equipment because it is the only product
that works in the field for extended periods. Also, recent studies
published in the last several months (don't ask who sponsored them,
'cause I don't remember) suggest that deet doesn't destroy your liver
and brain, after all.

Good luck!
Bernie
