I've not tried cassettes in a humid rainforest (I assume the hot kind), but found them to be very problematical in the heat and humidity of Georgia, which is close to that. As a result, many years ago I moved up to minidisc, which is probably the most capable medium for heat and humidity. I now record with a HHb Portadisc, about the same money, better recordings, will take the heat and humidity quite well.
