Hello Philip! I agree that a Grey Shrike-thrush can be ruled out - firstly on size (the 15mm estimate of the egg length would be accurate within about 1mm - so half the size of a Shrike-thrush egg) and secondly, the "pocket" within which the three eggs were located would at most accommodate a thornbill-sized bird. In addition, I've not seen Grey Shrike-thrushes in the area, and its dubious whether they would squeeze through the gaps between the slats that enclose the "garage" within which the nest was located. The colouring is not inconsistent with the size and images of a Brown Thornbill egg (as depicted in the Morcombe guide) ... and they are certainly in the area. However, there are a few other species with similarly coloured and sized eggs ... so it will probably
always remain a mystery. Regards ... Robin
