Afternoon all,

This is probably stretching things a bit but when people see Painted Honeyeaters anywhere, but especially in the West Wyalong, Lake Cargelligo and Condobolin areas, please keep an eye out for colour banded birds. Most of the Canberra banders are involved in a study of this species near the village of Ungarie, nw of West Wyalong. At least one colour banded bird has been seen away from the initial banding site (+/-a few km) so they could turn up anywhere. They have a master colour and metal band on one leg and two colours on the other. If you do see a banded bird please try and determine which leg the colours are on and in what order. You can let me, Richard or Mark Allen, Harvey Perkins, Stuart Rae, Alistair Bestow, Anthony Overs or Terry Korodaj know. Some of our trainee banders will also be able to help but there are too many to name individually. COG committee members will also pass on the information.

Robin's photo is excellent and the left leg is quite obvious. Any photos of colour banded birds especially welcome, even if only some of the bands are visible.

Thanks,

Mark
