Another question is how much we know about birds. One species I managed to see
in Philippines last April was the Red-crested Malkoha. It is a very weird
looking bird, marginally bigger than a Koel. It is one of 3 species of Malkoha
there, among 21 species of cuckoo. The book that I have says of all these 3
species "probably not a nest parasite and eggs and nest not known". So even
though they are sort of common (or so it says) this basic information is not
known. Indeed almost nothing is given on the breeding of any of the cuckoos,
most "not described". Also for what it is worth, the only one it mentions that
the Common Koel uses as nest hosts are Mynas. Presumably Hill Myna.
