Nice find and pictures!


Just looked up various pictures of fan-tailed cuckoos in Cuckoos of the World. I believe this is probably a mating pair. Adult females are paler than males with some light baring on front. I really don't think this is a juvenile as it is not very brown. It also has a light rufous colour on undertail coverts, which adults have, but juveniles don't.


Males are known to feed females during courtship. That is much more likely the case than an adult cuckoo feeding its young. Its not known if adult cuckoos actually keep track of their young or not.

Julie & I were at Mulligans today and spied these two. Both look like cuckoos but 1 was definitely acting as a parent and feeding the other.  ID help greatly appreciated.
