Thanks to all who responded regarding the cuckoo Id at Mulligan's Flat.

Jill and I also think they were Brush Cuckoos, based on eye ring colour, squarish tail etc

In the same area that day we also watched Pallid Cuckoos feeding on grubs.

The previous day we saw a young Horsfield's Bronze Cuckoo being fed by host parents ... yellow-rumped thornbills.
It could feed itself but it preferred the tiny offerings from the 'parents'.

Also of interest were numerous nesting birds including:
sacred kingfishers, white-throated and western gerygone, olive-backed oriole and white-winged trillers .. (probably others I've forgotten ... most likely leaden flycatchers).

Cheers
Julie

Mike,

Just saw your email about this. I forgot to look up Brush Cuckoo as a possibility. I agree they definitely look more like this species.

These are definitely Brush Cuckoos. Adult female Brush Cuckoos have an uncommon barred morph (as well as the more typical unbarred morph) and I suspect this may be a case of courtship feeding by a male to a barred female Brush Cuckoo.

Julie & I were at Mulligans today and spied these two. Both look like cuckoos but 1 was definitely acting as a parent and feeding the other.  ID help greatly appreciated.
