Alison Russell-French and I went out to Stony Creek NR mid morning today for about an hour. We saw 2 Painted Honeyeaters quite a way in on the track where the strips of casuarinas thin out. The birds were not calling at all, and we suspect they flew in from the Uriarra Xing direction, stayed around for only a short time, perching in several trees, did not seem to be foraging there, then flew back together in the direction of the crossing. We did not see them on the walk back to the carpark. It was not optimum for birding mid morning with some wind; we recorded 28 species including a Speckled Warbler, Double-barred & Red-browed Finches, Dusky Woodswallows with young birds, and a Pelican flying along the river. Mistletoebirds were abundant.
cheers
Jenny
