My favourite is the magpie!
It's really common, so everyone knows
it.
It has a wonderful "metallic" song.
It fiercely protects its nesting places - leading
to publicity (and often some great stories in the media) each
spring
It's behaviour in cocking its head sideways to hear
the movement of grubs in the grass and then extracting them expertly is
quite amazing.
