Hi Lindsay and all,
If you are passing birds on to Wildcare or any other group for potential care and it is euthanized could you please inform them of the Australian National Wildlife Collection at CSIRO. It would be a great pity to have potentially valuable specimens such as these lost to science. Staff members at the museum can be contacted on the emails above or if needed I can also be contacted.
Please note that I am away from this weekend until December 12.
Thanks,
Mark

Postscript to my message below. Wildcare have called back and it appears their bird person is away. I have been advised to drop it off to West Queanbeyan Vet tomorrow and they will take care of it. I would be much happier if the bird was to go to someone who knew what they were doing. I dropped an injured Black Falcon to the local vet a few years ago and they promptly euthanized it.

Lindsay
Sadly the Little Bittern that we saw and reported yesterday has fallen victim to (I suspect) a free running dog. It is alive but injured and unable to fly. One of my neighbours found it beside the walking path behind his house a short time ago. I have the bird in my possession and have rung Wildcare and am waiting for their bird person to call back. Does anyone have any good ideas on what we should do with it. My phone number is 6255 8716.
