The books are:

R. Jenkins & R Bartell: A field guide to Reptiles & Frogs of the
Australian High Country

and

Ross Bennett: Reptiles & Frogs of the Australian Capital Territory.

I too have found a Marbled Gecko at my home. Only once I think.

The colour pattern especially on the back is quite different between
these two. I have only ever encountered the Asian House Gecko in Cairns.
But then again I have not been between Brisbane and Cairns other than
briefly in 1981, 1997 and 2005.

I also have occasionally seen a gecko (I believe Marbled) on the patio
outside my house in Deakin. There is a very good little book covering
the Reptiles of Canberra (or some such name) which shows and describes
both species. I can't recall the exact name or author and I am out of
town at present so I can't check, but someone like Ian Fraser will know.

I've seen geckos around my house in Deakin, usually outside around
window frames, and once on a side gate on the wall of the house. One
managed to fall inside when I opened a window one night and took a lot
of catching!

I'm pretty sure I have seen two distinct species, but certainly the
Marbled Gecko.
