We had the French window in our bedroom open last night to enjoy the cool.

As we were going to sleep (about 10:30) a Barn Owl was calling for several minutes - and perhaps longer as it was still going when I dozed off.

At about 4:30 I was awoken by rustling in the room.  In the middle of the bedroom floor was a fairly large (perhaps 20cm wingspan) bat.  It seemed basically undamaged so i picked it up carefully and put it out on our deck and on checking this morning it had moved off to some steps and hung itself from them. A small image is attached: does anyone have an idea what species it is?  I have no idea how it got into the house!
