We were driving along Capt Cook Cres past the Stuart Flats this morning when
two male magpies suddenly flopped into the middle of the road lane in front
of us, fighting vigorously. We stopped about 5m short of them, and after
four or five seconds tooted the horn at them, but they took absolutely no
notice. It wasn't until one of the magpies capitulated and flew off, pursued
by the other, that the road lane was clear.

Reminds me of the time many years ago when we were walking up one of the
tracks at the back of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and two male Lyrebirds were
so involved in fighting each other that they came out onto the track about
10m ahead, similarly not seeming to pay us any attention at all.
