A koel was present at Macquarie at around 11am on Friday and could be heard
clearly from the pharmacy. I used the 1/4 hour waiting time while my
prescription was being filled to track it down to a walkway off Bennelong st
near the Erskine st intersection. It was about 3m off the ground calling
from what appeared to be a cherry tree hanging over the path.

It would be interesting to know how many Koels there are in Canberra. I
feel a lot of the sightings, or rather hearings, probably relate to the same
bird. The Macquarie Koel has been present most days since I first heard it
on 22 October. Sometimes it sounds very close, other times very distant.
It was fairly close this morning at about 4.30am.

Regards
Frank
